Worker Refuse To Help And Cause Student Burnt Alive

The Star, 4 June 2010, URL LINK

A man was desperate to save a woman from her burning car was in vain because of a petrol station refused to lend him a fire extinguishers despite his pleadings. This incident was happened in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. An accident was involving a Perodua Myvi, a Toyata Vios and a lorry that happened yesterday on 3.30am. Teo Chai Yong, a man which is among the earliest to arrive on the scene, was on the phone with the emergency hotline operator when he heard the frightened scream from a woman in Myvi and he saw sparks flew from under the car. He drove his car as quick as possible to the nearest 24 hour petrol station which less than 500 meter away and he was hoping to get a fire extinguisher. As he ran up to the paying counter, he saw four fire extinguishers behind the class door and an attendant was on the other side. He pleaded with the worker to let him have the fire extinguisher and he screamed that someone was really pinned inside a burning car. But at the other hand, the worker just stared at him and kept saying that he was not allowed to open the door after hours. Teo Chai Yong even threw his identity card to the worker and he was also offered to buy the extinguishers but the attendant was still refuse of helping. Then Teo Chai Yong rushed back to the accident scene and he can only see the car and the woman engulfed in flames. Teo Chai Yong mentioned in telephone, saying that she was still screaming but he could do nothing, he can just only stood there and her scarems grew more frantic before fading away.In the other hand, PH Petrol’s magaging director, Tan Kim Thiam said that robberies were common in those hours and the staff were concerned and did not respond to the request as they could not see the accident. The city police prosecution division head was believed that she was a 27 years old college student from Sarawak.

This news is melting my heart because of the reality in this world and also the people that lack of humanism. The woman was burnt in alive and she was lucky that there is somebody is trying to help her but unfortunately, the attendant refuse to lend him fire extinguisher because of avoiding robber. What I want to comment on this news is only hope that people in this world don’t be too mean, and I also hope the student rest in peace.
